Rehabilitation Collective Learning Centre

Architectural research & adaptive reuse

Developed following a University of East London Travelling Scholarship Award in 2015, this project explored the rehabilitation of an existing building in Hebron into a small collective learning centre for education, cultural exchange and community activity.

The proposal worked with the character of Hebron’s traditional stone architecture, investigating how the existing structure could be adapted rather than replaced.

The programme centred on a technology-supported English learning space for around ten children and adults, with flexible arrangements for workshops and community learning, and outdoor teaching in summer. Accommodation for up to four international guests would allow visiting teachers to stay, teach English and take part in reciprocal cultural exchange.

The proposals investigated restoring the existing fabric, upgrading services and lighting, new finishes and furniture, and a possible second phase extending the teaching facilities or creating further guest rooms.
