Two-storey side extension
A two-storey side extension and internal reconfiguration of an existing semi-detached family home, providing additional living and bedroom accommodation while respecting the scale and character of the original property.
The existing attached garage was replaced with a double-storey side extension, designed to remain visually subordinate to the red-brick house. Internally, the ground floor was reorganised to create an improved kitchen and dining space, with additional bedroom accommodation above.
A key element was the redesign of the existing staircase. Three-dimensional studies investigated the stair geometry, landing and guarding before the proposal was developed as part of the technical design.
KOA’s involvement extended from initial appraisal and concept development through planning and Building Regulations. The completed extension uses complementary red brickwork, roof forms and detailing to integrate with the existing house.
